About the Academy
A national, multi-sport academy raising the standard of coaching across all three Cayman Islands — guided by a simple promise: Inspire, Educate, Elevate.
The Cayman Islands National Coaching Academy is a national, multi-sport development institution created to strengthen the Cayman Islands' entire sporting ecosystem. We exist to raise the quality, consistency, and professionalism of coaching across every level and every sport.
Our aim
The Academy is designed to improve the quality of coaching throughout the Cayman Islands and, in doing so, to strengthen the development of athletes at every stage. Our long-term mandate is to support every Cayman Islands sports association in raising coaching standards, safeguarding athletes, and building sustainable pathways for both player and coach development. While football serves as our inaugural implementation model, our framework is built to expand across the wider sporting landscape.
Our vision
We envision a unified national standard for coaching practice across Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman, spanning all sporting disciplines. By equipping coaches with modern, evidence-based skills and a consistent national framework, we aim to strengthen grassroots participation, raise performance standards, and support the long-term growth of every sport.
What we do
Our foundational coach-education programme introduces coaches to the essential principles and practical tools of modern coaching, blending the science and the art of the profession. The curriculum is adaptable to each sport's unique demands and includes:
- Principles of effective coaching
- The Practice Spectrum and session design
- Technical and tactical development, adapted per sport
- Child and adolescent development, and age-appropriate methodologies
- Planning, preparation, and season structuring
- Coaching styles and athlete-centred approaches
- Game and performance analysis
- Communication and leadership skills
How we deliver
Our programme is delivered through a blended learning model that combines theory with practice — classroom learning through case studies, video analysis, and group discussion, alongside practical field sessions with hands-on demonstrations, practice coaching, and real-time feedback. All sessions are led by qualified educators with experience across grassroots, youth, and elite performance environments.
Who we serve
Our foundational framework is designed for grassroots and youth-level coaches across the Cayman Islands — coaches who work with children and youth aged 6 to 18, coach school teams across public and private institutions, and lead or assist club teams in community, recreational, or competitive environments.
Our standards
We are committed to establishing a unified national standard for coaching practice — one that safeguards athletes and develops them appropriately at each stage of their growth. To reinforce this commitment to quality, the Academy is formally accredited by the CPD Standards Office (UK) as an Accredited CPD provider (CPD Provider 51103, 2026–2028).
